NIKE METCON 10 REVIEW

5 min read · Updated June 2026 · Based on real use

If you lift heavy, the shoes on your feet matter more than you think. The Nike Metcon 10 is built for exactly that. After plenty of sessions in mine, here is the honest take: they are my go-to lifting shoe, with one obvious thing they are not built for.

4.5/5
The verdict A flat, firm, rock-solid lifting shoe that makes you feel locked into the floor on heavy lifts. Brilliant for the big movements, not for cardio.

What it is

The Nike Metcon 10 is a training shoe built for the gym, not the road. Nike puts a firm Hyperlift plate under the heel to give you a stable, flat base for heavy lifting, with a wider toe box than the Metcon 9 so you can spread your foot and drive power through the whole thing. It is a shoe designed around lifting and functional training first, with everything else second.

How it feels under heavy lifts

This is where the Metcon 10 earns its money. These are my lifting-only shoes, and they are exactly what you want for it. They are flat, the grip is solid, and they are firm in a way that makes you feel planted. Anything that needs stability, squats, deadlifts, heavy presses, they are excellent.

The standout for me is how locked in you feel on deadlifts. There is no squish, no rolling, no sense of the shoe giving way under load. You feel connected to the floor, which is exactly what you need when you are pulling heavy. That flat, firm base translates directly into more confidence and stability under the bar. Comfort-wise I would call them a 9 out of 10 for what they are built to do.

The downsides

Two honest things to flag. First, they took a couple of sessions to break in. Straight out of the box they are stiff, and they need a few wears before they feel properly comfortable, so do not judge them on day one.

Second, and this is the big one: they are not great for cardio. That same firmness and stability that makes them brilliant for lifting makes them harsh for running, conditioning, or anything with a lot of impact. If your session is half lifting and half treadmill, you will feel it. These are a specialist shoe, not an all-rounder, and at $200 they are a real investment for something you will mostly use on lifting days.

Who it is for

Anyone who wants a gym-specific shoe to help with their bigger lifts and keep them steady. If you are a bodybuilding or lifting type whose sessions are built around the barbell, these are made for you. The stability genuinely helps your big lifts.

Pros
  • Flat, firm, rock-solid base for lifting
  • You feel locked in on deadlifts
  • Excellent grip and stability
  • Comfortable once broken in
  • Wider toe box to drive power
Cons
  • Not good for cardio or running
  • Takes a couple of sessions to break in
  • Premium price at $200

The verdict

The Nike Metcon 10 is one of the best lifting shoes you can buy, and for the big stability-dependent movements it is hard to fault. The flat, firm base and that locked-in feel on heavy pulls make a real difference. Just know what you are buying: this is a dedicated lifting and training shoe, not an all-rounder. If your gym time is built around the barbell, it is a 4.5 out of 5. If you want one shoe for lifting and running both, look elsewhere.
