MUSCLE NATION SOUR PROTEIN WATER REVIEW
Clear protein waters have a reputation for being clumpy, sticky, and a bit pointless once you read the label. Muscle Nation Sour Protein Water is the one that changed my mind. It is the best clear protein I have had, and there is one ingredient detail that sets it apart.
What it is
Muscle Nation Sour Protein Water is a clear protein supplement you mix with water instead of milk. It is designed to be light and fruity rather than thick and creamy, like a cordial you can drink through the day. Each serve gives you 22g of protein, zero fat, barely any carbs, and it is 99% sugar free, with added electrolytes, BCAAs, and vitamin C thrown in. The Sour Series flavours are the sour-lolly-inspired versions, and they are the pick of the range.
The whey plus collagen difference
Here is the detail that matters and the reason I rate this over other clear proteins. Most clear protein waters, especially the Australian ones, lean almost entirely on collagen. Collagen is fine for your skin, joints, and connective tissue, but it is not a complete protein and it is not what you want if muscle is the goal.
Muscle Nation uses a dual protein source. Yes there is collagen in there, over 12g of it, but crucially it also includes whey protein isolate. That is a big plus. It means you are getting proper, complete, muscle-friendly protein in your clear drink, not just connective-tissue support dressed up as a protein hit. That combination is what lifts it above the pack for me.
Mixability and taste
Mixability is bang on. This is where most protein waters fall over, leaving you with clumps or that sticky residue around the shaker. Not this one. It mixes clean, no clumps, no stickiness, just a clear drink.
And the taste is phenomenal. It drinks very light, less thick than cordial, genuinely refreshing rather than something you choke down. Sour Blue Raspberry is my favourite, it nails that sour-lolly hit without being sickly. If you have been burned by gritty, average protein waters before, this is a different experience entirely.
When I actually drink it
I reach for it in the afternoon when I am feeling snackish. It is the perfect thing to break up the day, kill a craving, and sneak in 22g of protein without it feeling like a meal or a heavy shake. Because it is water-based and light, it sits really well when a milky shake would feel like too much.
That is also its secret weapon. If you do not go too well with milky products, whether that is taste preference or your stomach just does not love a lot of dairy, this is a brilliant way to still hit your protein. No milk, no heaviness, just a light fruity drink that happens to be doing your protein intake a favour.
Who it is for
This is not just a bodybuilder product. It is for anyone looking to get a little extra protein into their diet, full stop. You do not have to be chasing a stage to benefit from an easy, tasty, low-calorie way to top up your protein through the day.

The verdict
Muscle Nation Sour Protein Water is the best clear protein I have had, and it is not close. The whey isolate alongside the collagen makes it genuinely worth drinking for protein, the mixability is flawless, and the taste is the best in the category. It is a little pricey and it will not replace a meal, but as a light, refreshing, anytime protein top-up it is excellent. A strong 4.6 out of 5, and the one clear protein I would actually recommend.
